Kombucha is a living health drink made by fermenting green or/and black tea and sugar with the kombucha culture. The result can taste like something between sparkling apple cider and champagne, depending on what kind of tea you use. It's not what you'd imagine fermented tea to taste like. You can buy Kombucha at the health food stores, but usually it's about 4 dollars or so for a tiny bottle. Home brewing is easy and very economical. Why not learn how to make it? Subjects to be covered: Kombucha tea, fermentation, where to find supplies, special teas and combinations. Class goes for about 1 to 1.5 hrs. Cost: $20, including a Kombucha culture plus detailed written instruction. -Genny

Join us for a raw treat extravaganza and David Hickey for an amazing musical event. David Hickey Performs with Quartz Crystal Bowls, Paiste Gongs and Vibraphone Based in Mount Hope, Ontario, David Hickey of Crystal Journey performs with Quartz Crystal Singing Bowls, Paiste Gongs and Vibraphone. Each Crystal Bowl produces a pure note or tone, the purest there is, you have to hear them to believe it. I play them in combination with 10-12 Paiste Planet, Sound Creation and Symphonic Gongs and Vibraphone. Each gong features a strong fundamental note tuned to represent a natural harmonic series based on the orbital properties of the Sun, the Earth, the Moon and the other planets. It's like having a full orchestra. I also perform with other beautiful organic instruments that add the finishing touches to an amazing performance. The intent of the performance is to create beautiful improvised, meditative and healing music. Each of my performances are totally improvised and unique. The music attracts a full range of listeners. Concerts are in two sets, each lasting about an hour. I have been touring Canada coast to coast the past five years and have performed over 500 shows and have released 6 CD's. I have played the Bowls and Gongs accompanied by various vocalists as well as instruments such as the harp, piano, keyboard, guitar, mandolin, flute, didgeridoo, orchestra bells, tabla's and djembe as well as a performance with the Winnipeg Chamber Orchestra last June. Crystal Journey has dedicated it’s intention for the music to help raise awareness to our environment and such social causes as Tibet and Burma and has raised funds for various charities as well- The Monks of the Gomang Monastery, Indonesian Tsunami Relief, churches and more. My musical inspirations for this are, Jerry Garcia, The Grateful Dead, John Lennon, George Harrison, Bob Marley, Frederick Chopin to name a few.
Along with amazing raw treats and elixirs this will be an evening that will awaken your senses..... Date: Friday, October 16, 2009 Time: 7:30pm - 10:00pm (doors open 6:30pm) Where: The Norman Rothstein Theatre 950 West 41st Ave (at Oak Street) Cost: $23 in advance - $25 at the door Tickets will be available for purchase on David's site. I am wondering if it's possible to just have 5 other people over for a min-potluck, say once a month at my place (which is quite central). Myself (Genny, assist organizer) and Mahara (the host) decided we would like to make them monthly, the 2nd Sunday of each month. I know there are a lot of members but it could be a different 5 people each time. What do you think? If interested, please bring with you: a raw vegan (including no honey) dish ingredient listing Mahara can provide the dishes/utensils if people don't mind rinsing them and put in dishwasher a movie or board-game to watch/play later on The address will be e-mailed out to those that RSVP yes a few days before the mini-potluck. thanks, Genny

Hi everybody, If you don't have any plans for the weekend please come and join us at Sunday Potluck. For new members, we would like to remind you of the new rules we have set in place. There is a $5 attendance fee in addition to bringing a dish (this fee is to cover our setup and cleaning costs before and after the potluck). Sorry to sound harsh but please taste your food before you bring it, we already had an incident where there were some unedible dishes. Bringing a dish is mandatory and please make sure that it is big enough to feed at least 8 people. As usual, cutlery, plates, bowls, and cups are all provided. The dinner will start at 5pm. In the past potlucks, it was mentioned to organise some car pools to get as many people as possible out here. Please respond if you are driving and have room to take others. If you have any questions, you can phone me at 604 618 9102 See you at the potluck!read less Catherine
