Hi Everyone, I hear that Johnny's Cafe puts on these events every few weeks or so. This event looks like a bit of fun, a bit of soulful music Here is what he has to say about the event: "And thus it came to pass on Sunday 16 December at 6pm. The Gospel Christmas Special Featuring:Gary Davis: vocals, guitar, mandolin, harmonica. A long time acoustic musician and singer in acapella groups. Gary is an extrovert renowned for his ability to improvise and entertain. Together with, Clayton Frick: vocals and guitars. Seasoned blues musician returning to his folk music roots. A stickler for good guitar tones and tight backing vocal lines. So people get ready, for the spirit has come over these two boys. Bear witness to their singing in three-part harmony even though they are but two:"open the window, Noah", "this may be the last time", and "wade into the water, whoah yeah". The crowd will gather and pass through the doorway to the cafe as though it were a portal to some better place. They will creep onto every seat, and offer thanks as they partake in the blessed provisions bestowed for the occasion. They will see and hear and declare 'yay that it good! Play some more of that stuff', and as they command their will be done. Specialising in Negro spirituals, which will be the focus on the night, some slices of Delta Blues can also be expected along with tunes from Neil Young, Bob Dylan, JJ Cale, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Cat Stevens, Bob Marley, Johnny Cash plus some obscure gems: do you remember 'Sylvia's Mother'? With a repertoire of 300 songs and an ability to improvise any they don't know, these guys are a veritable musical jukebox; always keen for a good sing-a-long. Resurrect your spirit and join in praising Gary, Clayton and some special guests who will step forward to make their affirmation of the power of music. Hallelujah!" $28 entry includes 3-course dinner menu - a sample menu for the night can be forwarded on request by emailing johnny@johnnyscafe.c om.au. No BYO - beer and wine will be available at reasonable prices. Please note: Reservations are essential. "J Club Lounge 66" for memorable, close up musical experiences. Xmas celebration - combined Vegan Society, Animal Liberation Society and the Vegatarian Society. Nice restaurant this one. The $25 is for a banquet and is approximate, however I believe it is ok if you prefer to just order separate to the banquet and most main meals here are very reasonable - $15 max. Also there are some raw food dishes on the menu! Big Event. See you there.

(small change - from Friday night to Saturday night) Freelea is a member of our group and also the Raw Food group. She has her own business helping people change to a raw food diet and improve their health as well as being a qualified personal trainer. See website www.raw-balls.com. One of the important things that Freelea will talk to us about is the change process that we need to integrate into our lifestyle. There are many changes that are not just biological; - Why & how to go raw, Freelea's personal journey - How exercise is a vital component in succeeding on a raw food diet - Energy levels, fasting and the different ways of doing raw - How to cope with xmas and holiday season - Cultivating the right attitude to be motivated to stay raw - Bring questions to ask Freelea is a perfect role model for a healthy diet and lifestyle herself as you'll see (or have seen) and her personal message is "It's time to get excited about life again!!!" She has also come from an unhealthy diet and deadened lifestyle to a new life she loves with passion! This event will be fun for everyone, so come along and enjoy!

Hi Everyone, David is an extremely knowledgeable person when it comes to this subject. Not many people have been working in the industry as long and written 10 books about it! David has been on AL and Vegan Society committees and worked for the Australian Association for Humane Research. Written ten books on veganism and animal rights. Edited/compiled two vegan cookbooks, given talks on animal rights/vegan subjects, have run a series of workshops on communicating animal rights issues. We are lucky to have David agree to visit our group and talk with us about some of his knowledge of which he has outlined a few areas below here; Energy and ethics Lifestyle Supporting the Animal Industries Education and communication of issues Down on the Farm Veganism Vegans have a double challenge, to convince people of ethical and health advantages and to alert others of the problems of pioneering in hostile territory. As animal activists and advocates we will have little support. We may even have to work solo. We are fighting mainly a common fear of ill health from living on a plant diet. For vegans, who themselves feel safe foodwise, their fear is about their own social isolation and failure to communicate their message. I am sure David will also be willing to answer any questions you may have and yes that includes vegan cooking! Gold coin donation for group running costs.

James is a member of our group and has his own business making very tasty (i personally can say so) raw food products and is holding an information meeting as below. Sacred Meals from Abundant Garden You are invited to attend our FREE information evening and sample some of the healthiest food in the world. Come and learn the truth about health and wellbeing in the western world, what?s really going on and what the answer is to real lasting health. This will be an eye opening presentation that will answer some of the nagging questions of our generation, such as why degenerative disease statistics are at an all time high, even though we have so much modern medicine available to us. You will learn about the healing power of wholefoods and ancient meals that were considered to be the most precious offering you could make to your body. You will be able to hear the philosophy behind this wholefood company and learn about the expanding Abundant Garden vision. See you there! Karyn

Hi, this is an event held at Animal Liberation Society. Will be very informative and helpful for people not already consuming a vegan diet :-) On November 15 we will be welcoming Dr. Hope Ferdowsian (Director of the Washington Center for Clinical Research) to our office to present a talk on vegan nutrition. Dr. Ferdowsian is a nutrition researcher, physician, and public health advocate who conducts studies on the role of nutrition in obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Her current projects include a study to examine the role of a low-fat vegan diet in diabetes management, and a preliminary analysis of the addictive properties of dairy products. So for anyone wanting to know more about being vegan, or for any vegans who have ever had to defend themselves on questions like ?but where do you get your vitamins from???, this is your time to get clued up on the real story from an animal friendly nutrition expert. We look forward to seeing you all there! Details of the talk are as follows: When: Thursday 15th November 2007, 6:30pm ? 7:30pm Cost: Gold coin donation, light vegan refreshments will be served (next to the Forbes Hotel - entry up the stairs under the ?Golfmart? sign) Note: Building doors close at 6:30pm. Please arrive prior to this time, or call the office on (02) 9262 3221 to gain late entry.
