A Little Aloha Comes to Evanston: Tiki Being Carved at Evanston Lakefront

Hawaiian artist Johnnie "Keoni" Durant is carving an elaborate tiki in Centennial Park along Evanston's lakefront. Durant is well-known for his traditional Hawaiian sculpture and jewelry.

A tiki is a large wood (or stone) carving that embodies the human figure. In Polynesian mythology, it represents a deep connection to the spiritual realm. Historically tikis reminded ancient Hawaiians of their values, including respect for family, appreciation of nature and belief in the power of knowledge. Today, tikis serve as symbols of humanity and creating a better life among all peoples.

YOGA WITH SHANTI at the Lake in Evanston at Dawes Park

9:30am Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (until it gets too cold then yoga will go indoors. Location TBD)

Every class is different, every one is welcome, all ages. Let's enjoy the beautiful outdoors !

Shanti likes to practice yoga with everybody, all inclusive, everyone is welcome. Class is inspired by the people who are there present, by the weather and by the over all feelings and atmosphere of the moment and in this way Shanti hopes to inspire people with their practice.

Every class is different: mudras (hand gestures) ; pranayama (soul / breath extension and slowing), asanas (physical postures); warm up; physical, mental, spiritual posture; dhyana short (meditations).

The idea is to feel better about ourselves and toward each other. Practicing yoga in community. All ages, baby to eldery, all levels and all body types welcome.
