6pm raw food potluck
7pm Brendan Brazier talk, Q & A
8pm Mayan New Year Celebration

Many of you attended the Mayan New Year/Day Out of Time Potluck Celebration last year at Yoga Now. Well, we are having it again and this time, at the Butterfly Social Club. World Famous Iron Man Triathalete Brendan Brazier who is totally Raw will be giving a talk on his raw experience and on his awqard winning vega products. This will be followed by some good latino, reggae, dancing music, good times! MIguel will also be giving a brief talk entitled Welcome to the Evolution about the message from the Mayan Elders about these days leading up to 2012, and will lead us in the 20 sacred Mayan Mudras.
Hope you can make it!

The Day Out Of Time is celebrated each year on July 25, as this is the day which does not exist on the calendar. The Gregorian Calendar has 365 days and the Soal/Lunar Mayan calendar has 364 days, so to make them add up, the Day out Of Time exists to celebrate Peace through Culture, Time as Art, and Forgiveness.

BIO

Brendan Brazier is one of only a few professional athletes in the world who?s diet is 100 percent plant-based. He?s a professional Ironman triathlete, bestselling author on performance nutrition and the creator of the award-winning VEGA line of whole food products. He is also the 2003 and 2006 Canadian 50km Ultra Marathon Champion.

Told from the onset that a plant-based diet wouldn?t cut it on the professional Ironman circuit, Brendan?s nutritional journey began with unpromising results. Several months of chronic hunger, the need to constantly eat and reduced energy levels culminated in a decline in athletic performance.

Brendan?s stubborn curiosity persevered however, and after many years of research, trials and tribulations, he created a plant-based whole food diet that worked better than he had ever expected. Since then, Brendan has become a top professional Ironman triathlete, crediting his diet for his success competing in one of the world?s most demanding sports.

Meanwhile, prompted by the success of his book and growing consumer demand, Brendan partnered with Sequel Naturals to create the Vega line of plant-based whole food products. From formulation to raw material sourcing, Brendan was instrumental in the entire product development process.

Speaking throughout North America , Brendan continues to educate on the value of a properly implemented plant-based diet for improved vitality and performance. For more information, visit www.brendanbrazier.com

Brendan?s self published THRIVE was expanded to a full length version, THRIVE DIET, published by Penguin Canada and is currently available through Amazon.ca - US version will be available in Jan '08. It is a top 50 book on Amazon.ca

Before the Screening of Live Earth at 9pm (see below) at the Funky Buddha

Al Gore's Live Earth Concert and Pledge

On 7.7.07 more than two billion people will come together during Live Earth. That number is unfathomable - more than one-fourth of the worlds population will participate in a single event and demand a solution to the climate crisis.

Join the movement.

Sign the 7.7.07 Live Earth Pledge:

http://liveearthpledge.org/algore.php

The 7.7.07 Live Earth Pledge:

I PLEDGE:

1. To demand that my country join an international treaty within the next 2 years that cuts global warming pollution by 90% in developed countries and by more than half worldwide in time for the next generation to inherit a healthy earth;

2. To take personal action to help solve the climate crisis by reducing my own CO2 pollution as much as I can and offsetting the rest to become "carbon neutral;"

3. To fight for a moratorium on the construction of any new generating facility that burns coal without the capacity to safely trap and store the CO2;

4. To work for a dramatic increase in the energy efficiency of my home, workplace, school, place of worship, and means of transportation;

5. To fight for laws and policies that expand the use of renewable energy sources and reduce dependence on oil and coal;

6. To plant new trees and to join with others in preserving and protecting forests; and,

7. To buy from businesses and support leaders who share my commitment to solving the climate crisis and building a sustainable, just, and prosperous world for the 21st century.

Sign the Live Earth Pledge by visiting:

http://liveearthpledge.org/algore.php

Together we were able to make Marchs Congressional hearings a huge moment by collecting more than 500,000 messages and demonstrating the significant public support for solving the climate crisis to our elected leaders and the media. Our next opportunity to demonstrate this growing movement will come on 7.7.07

Live Earth will not just be a 24-hour concert but the launch of a massive campaign to demonstrate that the political will exists to solve the climate crisis.

Sign the Live Earth Pledge by visiting:

As our movement grows larger we will shake loose the paralysis currently gripping our political system. Working together we can get it done.

Thank you,

Hello!
Are you interested in "going raw"? I am hosting an informal raw dinner at my place next Sunday evening and would love for those new to raw foods or those wanting to transition towards more raw foods to be there! I'm planning on making a wonderful salad, entree dish, and yummy dessert and talking a bit about the raw food diet and lifestyle. (I am Serve Safe certified so know how to prepare foods safely.) I would love to get some of us together to hang out and to learn how to go and stay "raw" in the city!

This would be PERFECT for you if:
You're new to raw and living foods and aren't sure what it's all about.
You would love to go raw but aren't sure how you could afford it in this city.
You're not sure how to go raw in a healthy, balanced way.
You'd love to go toward a diet that includes significantly more raw foods and would like help making a gentle transition.
You are having trouble staying on the path and are in need of some inspiration.
You'd love to meet other raw food people on the same journey who you could spend time with and exchange ideas and food with.
You want to be inspired about food, your health, and your life.
You would love to know more about what this kind of diet and lifestyle has to offer.
You want to enjoy some awesome raw food and raw dessert that you can easily make for yourself at home.
You would love to have a fun, informative, and relaxing Sunday evening out and perhaps make some new friends too!

This is going to be such a great night!
6-8:30
I'm asking for a $15 dollar donation just to cover the cost of the food.
Can't wait to see you there! I'll email my address and phone number out next week! (I'm in Bucktown). If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to e-mail me and I will gladly give you my phone number :)

May Rockin Raw Potuck at the Butterfly

RAW LIQUID POTLUCK!!

Get your creative juices flowing for our first LIQUID potluck!!

Ideas:

Green Smoothies
Green Soups
Seaweed Soups
Gazpacho
Elixirs
Green Juices
Raw Lemonade
Cacao drinks or sweet fruit smoothies for dessert

Pls feel free to post ideas and recipes on the message board!!

my typical green savory soup consists of:
1 bunch greens (spinach, chard and lettuce are very mild, add in few leaves of kale if not accustomed to pepperiness of kale)
1 handful parsley or cilantro
GINGER (key)
spicy fresh pepper (habanero or jalapeno) - start with a very small amount and add to taste
(or dash of dried cayenne)
dash of olive oil or 1/2 avocado
dulse
celery
fresh lime squeezed in
dash apple cider vinegar
tomato or red, yellow, or orange bell pepper
oregano or basil fresh or dried, or any other herb you like (optional)
filtered water - 1/2 cup or more, start with a smaller amount and add as you need if too watery it doesn't taste like soup

i love garnish - i chop finely green onion and cucumber, you can also sprinkle some oregano or basil, dabble of olive oil, chopped cilantro, be creative!

if you don't have a high speed blender like a vitamix or champ, then you may need to chop everything down first in a food processor, or add things very slowly and chopped up small to a regular blender, the vitamix makes it very smooth but a regular blender does the trick too!!

Also possible speaker at this event
$15.00 if no liquid contribution

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU LABEL ALL INGREDIENTS IN YOUR LIQUID CREATION!!!!
